Weather for the weekend of 2 - 3 April

Updated 1/4/2011

A high in the Bight is moving very slowly indeed - it is expected to be south west of Adelaide late on Sunday. This will maintain the easterly flow across south east Queensland, bringing showers to coastal areas through the weekend. A weak trough will form over the weekend in western Queensland but remain practically stationary. There is the possibility of a light thundery shower on Saturday with a CAPE of 300 J/kg and an SLI of -1C.

The recent rainfall activity has largely been confined to the coast, with only occasional and isolated showers affecting inland areas. So Dalby has received 9mm in the last 7 days, but Oakey nothing. This pattern of coastal showers will continue over the weekend, with only light and very isolated showers possibly affecting the Darling Downs.

Saturday 2 April 2011
Dalby           28C
Stability        B
Convection   Dry convection to 8,500 with cloud base 7,500ft
Wind            SE @ 5kts

Day Conditions
First cloud at 5,500ft for a temperature of 24C, so it does not look promising for an early start.  With the daylight drawing in (sunset is now before 6pm), available soaring hours are reducing. However, provided the possible high cloud remains thin, soaring conditions should be reasonable for XC flights of 300km or more.
