Updated 25/2/2011
A high south of Tasmania is moving east and ridging up the east coast. This will bring continued coastal showers into Friday for south east Queensland. A trough lies from the WA border through to the southern NSW coast. As the high moves east, this will slide east and north to lie close to the Queensland border by late Sunday.
As with all troughs, slight changes in its speed of movement can affect the weather significantly - watching how the trough moves over the next couple of days will be useful.
This week's thunderstorms produced some rain on the Downs, with Oakey receiving 44mm. Dalby received only 0.4mm but an arc from Oakey through Jandowae to just east of Chinchilla was well wetted, receiving around 20-30mm.
Saturday 26 February 2011
Dalby 32C
Stability B
Convection Dry convection to 10,000ft with cloud base at 9,000ft
Wind Slight north easterly
Day Conditions
There could be some high cloud around, but this should remain thin or at least patchy. First cloud at 5,500ft for a surface temperature of 26C - which suggests that the day should start reasonably early and the indications are that it should go late, with lift remaining under the clouds for some time after thermals disconnect from the surface.
Sunday 27 February 2011
Dalby 34C
Stability C
Convection Dry convection to 10,000ft with cloud base at 8,500ft
Wind Calm
Day Conditions
There will be some high cloud around. First cloud at 5,500ft for a surface temperature of 28C, so an early start is unlikely. Furthermore, the calm conditions may delay the start as insufficient surface turbulence may exist to trigger thermal separation. The day should continue late, however.
