Weather for the weekend 12 - 13 February 2011

A high south west of WA is moving into the Bight and is expected to be south west of Adelaide by Sunday evening. Meanwhile a low south west of Tasmania is moving east. Its attendant cold front will link up to a trough that should reach far western Queensland on Sunday evening. This pressure situation will maintain the generally easterly flow in SE Queensland, with occasional coastal showers.

This weeks rain has seen Dalby receive 9mm, Jondaryan 20mm but Oakey recorded 50mm. Falls were generally single digit until west of Miles, where Drillham received 70mm and Dullaca over 90mm. Falls to the south west were generally around 20mm-40mm.

Saturday 12 February 2011
Dalby             33C
Stability          B
Convection    Dry convection to 9,500ft with cloud base of 9,000ft
Wind               SE @ 5kts

Day Conditions
First cloud at 6,000ft for a temperature of 27C. From the above sounding, there could be some high and medium cloud about, but this should be mostly quite thin, thus shading the ground only slightly. Cross country flying therefore looks quite good. The heavier rain earlier this week west of Miles will still be affecting convection.

Sunday 13 February 2011
Dalby             33C
Stability          B
Convection    Dry convection to 9,500ft with cloud base 8,000ft
Wind              SE @ 5kts

Day Conditions
First cloud at 6,000ft for a temperature of 28C. Once again, high and medium cloud will be about, possibly thicker than Saturday, so some areas may be shaded enough to decrease convection. Cross country flying therefore looks quite good. The heavier rain earlier this week west of Miles could still be affecting convection.
